1101 Days/32w1d

After over two years of living in Virginia, the girls and I finally made our first visit to the National Museum of the Marine Corps! We actually went specifically because I saw on their website that they were having some kind of robot display and thought it would be a good excuse to get out of the house on a weekend. I figured if the girls weren't interested in the robots, we would just walk over to the little park and spend a few hours in the nice fresh Fall air.

My original plan was to go around noon, but that is precisely when Lucy went down for a nap so we didn't end up going until 2pm which was an hour before the display was set to wrap up. They had a robot out front and then a small display set up inside with some Lego robots and a robot built by the technology club at the high school on base.

These aren't the greatest pictures, but they were too funny not to share. Lucy wanted to go over and "pet" the robot. As soon as she touched it, Ari made it move and Lucy took off!

We only spent about ten minutes looking at the indoor displays before they started to pack everything up. It was only 3pm so I started trying to think of other places I might be able to take them when Arianna asked if we could look around the museum. I really didn't think she would be interested, but it was free and we were already there so I figured, why not?

I ended up being really pleasantly surprised both at how much there was to see in the museum as well as how interested Arianna ended up being in everything. She asked a lot of questions (which really made me wish that Jon could have gone with us because he would have had more answers than I did) and really enjoyed looking at all of the historical items and displays. There were two areas specifically designed for kids, but she wanted to see it all and she's eager to go back with Jon and learn even more.

This is where Jon would have come in handy. We walked through the Making Marines exhibit and at the very beginning they had headphones and booths with recordings of Marine DI's yelling which prompted Arianna to ask what you do at boot camp "other than get yelled at." Good question!

One of the kid's exhibit's which, to my surprise, Arianna showed the least amount of interest and quickly wanted to move on. I feel bad, I really should give her more credit. She's a smart child and she really wants to learn.

I told Arianna that this is what televisions used to look like to which she responded, "You mean when Grandma was little?" I told her yes and then mentioned that Grandma and Grandpa probably watched tv in black and white with no color. TV with no color. Arianna's mind = blown.

There was actually so much more to see than what I was able to get pictures of, but Lucy was all over the place and I had to snap photos in between trying to keep her from getting lost or running in front of people and tripping them. We ended up staying for about three hours and only left because they were closing. Arianna said she had a lot of fun and wants to come back and look at everything again.

We have a fun day planned for tomorrow as well which I will post picture of either tomorrow or Monday!
