1533 Days

1. Our beautiful new home. ~Sarah

2. "I like Super Why." ~Lucy

3. Ice. ~Ruby (she's teething)

4. Health! ~Sarah

5. "Grateful to the Lord for leading me to the right people and making new job contacts." ~Jon

6. "My family!" ~Arianna

7. I'm grateful for my firstborn daughter, Arianna. She is growing into a lovely young lady with a beautiful soul. Her imagination still soars and she's so incredibly smart. I'm proud of the big sister that she is, how well she's doing in school, and how hard she tries to make good decisions and be a role model for her little sisters who absolutely adore her. ~Sarah

8. "Ari is a good sister to me!" ~Lucy

9. "I'm thankful that I get to go on a field trip on Tuesday!" ~Arianna

10. The USMC and all of the benefits that it has provided for Jon and our family. Happy birthday, Marines! ~The Bush Family

11. Today, I am thankful to all of the Veterans who has served in the military and sacrificed their time, safety, and in some cases, their lives to defend our nation and keep us safe. I am thankful to my own veteran husband who works hard every single day to ensure that our family is provided for. His current assignment isn't fun and is rarely ever rewarding, but he pushes forward for us and I don't know what we would do if he weren't willing to make those sacrifices. ~Sarah

12. "I am thankful that you pray for me and have been so supportive. And for taking care of the girls." ~text message that Jon sent me

13. I am grateful that we are well fed. So it's not all organic, so it comes out of a package sometimes, so we occasionally eat *gasp* fast food! The fact is, there is food in our bellies every single day. Even when we've reached the tail end of the pay period and our fridge and pantry are looking bare and it feels like there is nothing to eat, we eat. We have NEVER gone hungry. I have the ability to create food plans and the guarantee that whatever ingredients I need will be readily available with one quick trip to the grocery store. I don't have the burden of wondering where our next meal is going to come from or how long we'll have to go before we're able to eat again. Food may be a necessity, but the type of food that we eat and the way we eat and the fact that we take these things for granted is a luxury. ~Sarah

14. One year ago today in the early hours of the morning, God blessed our lives with Ruby Estelle. We are thankful for her easygoing personality, her sweet, cheesy gap-toothed grin, her silly mannerisms, and the pretty light features that she got from her Great Paw Paw (who would have been so proud of her). Our little family would not be the same without sweet Ruby Star and we are thankful for God's timing in making her a part of our family. ~Jon, Sarah, Ari, and Lucy

15. I am grateful for my husband and everything that he sacrifices to take care of our family. ~Sarah

16. CAKE! ~Lucy and Ruby

17. All of the friends and family who came over to celebrate our November babies' birthdays! ~The Bush Family

18. "A clean house and a good dinner." ~Jon

19. I'm thankful for my best friend, Lisa. We met online four years ago and last year the military brought us close enough to meet in person. The beginning of August, she and her family had a housewarming party and I didn't want to go. It wasn't that I didn't want to meet them, it's that I always feel awkward in social situations especially when I don't know very many people. I was stressing out and I believe I tried to play a "my toddler is being really cranky and tantrum-y...." card and Lisa likely knew what I was doing and came back with, "That's ok, we have a child who throws tantrums sometimes too! We don't judge tantrum-y kids or their parents!" And I was like, ".......well, darn." So I went. And I made the absolute best, most amazing friend I've ever had in my 27 years of life. We have the perfect amount of similarities to keep us close and just enough differences to balance each other out. She listens to me vent, gives me honest advice, supports me, and provides me with fresh perspective (like I said, differences are good!). She doesn't judge me and she forgives. She's given me the honor of being a Godmother and that's more than just a title to me. Along with my own daughters, I have two more to set a good example for and help discover all of life's beauty. I couldn't ask for any more in a best friend and I look forward to our families sharing a lifetime of memories. ~Sarah

20. "I love my toys and my Kitty Hello bed!" ~Lucy

21. "Had a really good day at work!" ~Jon

22. "I like my teachers! They're nice. And I like my friends." ~Arianna

23. "A weekend off to spend with my family." ~Jon

24. "There's no homework this week! And we get to have our class Thanksgiving party!" ~Arianna

25. Three years ago today, our family of three became a family of four when we welcomed Lucille Scarlett. We are thankful for her her hugs, her laughter, her strong personality, and her hilarious daily Lucy-isms. It's been an amazing past three years watching her grow into the spunky little girl she is today. We are all so grateful to God for making Lu a member of our family. ~Jon, Sarah, Ari, and Ruby

26. I'm grateful that we have the luxury and privilege of being able to choose to skip the Black Friday madness. Some people shop because they want the deals, some people shop because they NEED the deals in order to be able to do Christmas or buy their kids enough winter clothes to last the season. I feel for those people and it's not lost on me that we are blessed to not be in their shoes. ~Sarah

27. "Four days off!" ~Jon

28. We are thankful to be able to spend this Thanksgiving with extended family. This time of year can be difficult for many military families who are stationed far away from family or who have a service member who is deployed. We keep them in our prayers and remain thankful for the sacrifices that they are making so that we can enjoy this day at home with our families. Someday it will be our turn to make those sacrifices so for this year, we enjoy the blessing of family. ~The Bush Family

Just popping in to let everyone know that I am getting caught up on posts! This past week/weekend was Arianna's birthday and birthday party so we were busy celebrating her and planning birthday festivities. Now that's it's all behind us, I'm editing all of the photos and slowly getting them up. I have Week 5 of Project 365 (January 29th-February 4th) posted here and it includes photos from Lucy's haircut that you've been waiting for!

Tomorrow I will have Week 6 up and sometime before the end of the week, all of Ari's birthday photos, Ruby's three month update, and Valentine's Day photos. Whew! That's a lot of photos so I better get back to editing!

1160 Days

The post I made yesterday left out a lot of detail because I was trying to stick to the health facts. There was actually a second part to the story and I felt that it deserved it's own entry. I've been completely overwhelmed with gratitude at the outpouring of love, encouragement, and prayer that my family and I received over the weekend while I was in the hospital. I wish I could thank each and every one of you individually in person for your kindness and support. I'm one of those stubborn personalities that hates being in a vulnerable position that requires me to ask for help. I always want to do it on my own and this weekend I discovered that sometimes I just can't. I also discovered that I have managed to surround myself with some absolutely incredible people who my family and I are blessed to have in our lives.

Alyssa S- for generously bringing me two bags of milk to supplement Ruby with while I was receiving an antibiotic that I wasn't entirely comfortable nursing while on. I've donated milk and I know what a gift this is to give to someone else. Thank you for staying to chat with me for a bit especially considering you had movers at your house packing up your entire life into boxes and were preparing to move it all to another house! It was nice having you there as a conversational distraction as they changed my IV and blew my vein for the hundredth time ;)

Katie C- for having flowers sent up to my room the first day that I was admitted. They put a smile on my face and really brightened up the room (even though they weren't the exact ones that you ordered, haha). That was completely unexpected and very very thoughtful of you.

Karoline P- for stopping by after running a race (even with a sore knee!) with an adorable stuffed owl for Ruby and a beautiful bracelet for me. It was so nice having someone to talk to while Jon was gone and I felt like I hadn't seen you in forever anyway. I can't wait to see you again and let you snuggle Ruby!

Uncle Bob and Aunt JoAnn- for taking Ari and Lucy for the entire weekend with only a few hours notice. I cannot even begin to express my gratitude for what you did for our family this weekend. Because of you, Jon was able to stay overnight which meant that Ruby and I did not have to be separated. Although I missed my two sweet girls, I was at peace knowing that they were safe and happy with you and both girls plus Jon and my mom told me that they had a blast. We love you both and we are blessed to have you as family. Thank you!!!!

Reyka S, Mary S, Jenny B, Lisa B, Vivid L-L, Rachele S, Kayla A, Amy B, and Aluria P- for either offering milk, offering to wet nurse, or posting on your pages or community pages asking for milk for Ruby. Again, I know what a gift this is to give to another mama and baby. I'm also incredibly touched that I had so many offers from other mamas to nurse Ruby so that she wouldn't lose her latch (SO important to me as she was only two days old and we had just barely established a god latch) and that nobody thought that it was weird (and if they did, they were kind and smart enough to keep quiet, haha). It really comforts me to know that if anything like this were to ever happen again, I would have plenty of people ready and willing to make sure that my baby was given the best.

Amy B, Austin R, Cara D, Tammi M, Victoria W- for helping me with information on the antibiotics. You know, when I read back through the comments and messages a lot of it was information that I probably either already knew or would have been able to easily find, but at the time I was so overwhelmed with everything. Being a sick and weak as I was and being told that my two day old baby couldn't stay with me AND that I couldn't nurse her had me completely panicked and unable to think clearly. I also had a phone with a low battery and no way to charge it and spotty coverage so even that wasn't a reliable resource. Thank you for providing me with clarity and the resources to help me find more information so that I could feel confident that Ruby would be safe with my milk.

Lisa B and Karoline P- for offering to take Ari and Lucy so that Jon could stay with Ruby and I and Karoline P and Kayla A for offering to make meals for Jon and the girls while I was in the hospital. Even though we didn't end up needing food or childcare, it means the world to me that people were willing to make sure that my entire family was taken care of while I was unable to do so.

Brittany B, Dawn H, and Lesile B- for making posts on your own pages asking for prayers and Erika H, Kimberly J, and Stephanie J for posting my my page sending well wishes. Melissa J, Stephanie J, Dawn H, Mysti B, and Lindsey W who sent me messages checking up on me and offering to come and sit with me if I needed company or somebody to lend a hand with Ruby while Jon was taking care of everything else.

To everyone else who commented on the posts that I made throughout the weekend- you are amazing! I first posted that I was being admitted at 7:54am on Friday and 48 comments with prayers and supportive comments poured in immediately. At 10:14am, I posted that I had just been told that Ruby couldn't stay with me and that I needed milk and got 50 more comments (plus messages) with offers of milk, offers to help with Ari and Lucy, information on nursing while on medication, information specific to the medications that I was being prescribed, as well as more prayers and positive thoughts. Posted AGAIN at noon and got another 27 comments. People continued to post encouraging comments on my Facebook wall, my posts, and the photos that I was posting throughout that first day and continued to check up on me via text message and Facebook message on Saturday and Sunday. There had to be well over 200 comments, posts, and text/Facebook messages sent to me and I'm sure many more were sent to Jon as the first thing that he said upon arriving at the hospital was, "You have a lot of people praying for you. A LOT." So many that I couldn't even keep up or respond to them all. I tell you honestly, your willingness to stop, even if just for a moment, and lift me up in my time of need is what kept me going. Knowing that I had people all over the world (and not just friends and family, but friends and family of friends  and family) praying for my strength and quick recovery kept my spirits up and I believe truly made a impact on how quickly I recovered after that first rough day. When I finally posted on Sunday that I was being released to go home, 87 people "liked" the post and several people posted follow up posts on their own pages letting everybody know that their prayers and well wishes had worked. In turn, people commented on those posts and said that they would continue to pray for my healing! So people out there, many who I do not even know and who do not know me, are STILL praying for me. That is SO amazing!

All of the prayers.......I can't even imagine the noise you all made up in Heaven!!! You were not ignored. God was listening and He sent me angels.

*The first time I passed out was during a chest x-ray. The last thing I remember before waking up on the floor was the radiologist having me hold on to a bar above my head and then watching him walk away to take the x-ray. Apparently, there was something on the machine that he forgot to adjust so he walked back over to me to fix it and that's when I went down. Had he not been there to catch me, I likely could have ended up with a concussion when I hit the floor.

*On two different occasions I was given antibiotics that contained penicillin, a drug that I am allergic to. Although I don't know exactly what happens to me when I take it, it's been known to cause some pretty severe reactions which is something that I'm not sure my already suppressed immune system would have handled well. On both occasions, the same doctor (Dr. Vogle- the OB that I saw) walked into the room just in time to see the IV bag hanging and stop me from receiving it.

*The second day that I was there, my fever started to go down and stay down so they started to space out my medication. I went to bed that night and was told beforehand that somebody would be coming in to get vitals and blood around 3am. My eyes fluttered open a little before 2am when I heard my door open. Before I could even focus on who was coming into the room, I noticed how cold and sweaty I felt. A nurse came over, introduced herself, and apologized for waking me an hour early, but said that she wanted to get my vitals before shift change because there was going to be about an hour in between when she left and the next nurse arrived (meaning nobody would be in until 4am). The patient care supervisor still would have been there, but she doesn't do vitals, only goes to patient's rooms if she's paged. She put on the BP cuff, the heartrate monitor, and stuck the thermometer under my tongue. The first thing that registered was that my fever was back up to almost 102. The monitor then showed a heartrate of 132 and a BP in the 80's. Very poor vitals all around and I was already starting to experience some of the other symptoms that I had originally come in with. She gave me a fever reducer and increased the speed of the fluid drip in my IV. I went back to sleep and woke up with much better vitals (98 temperature, HR of 100, and BP in the mid-90s). Had she not decided to come in early, I probably would have gotten as bad as I had been the first day.

I continued to feel blessed and protected during my entire hospital stay and each time I started to feel lost or desperate, I was given a little ray of light. Thank you thank you THANK YOU to all of the people who help provide those rays and who really showed me true friendship. I sincerely hope that I am able to do the same for you someday.

1076 Days/28w4d

Just wanted to let everybody know that I haven't forgotten that it's time for a Lucy update! I'm actually really excited about this one because she has grown and changed SO MUCH since the one I did at 18 months. Her vocabulary has completely exploded and she's so full of personality! Anyway, the only thing holding it up is that I haven't had a chance to take her 21 month pictures yet. I want to do it outside and we've had some pretty gloomy, rainy days that haven't allowed for an outdoor photo session. I'm hoping that we'll have decent weather tomorrow so that we can walk big sister to school and get them done on the way back home. If I can accomplish that, I will have the entry up either later tomorrow afternoon or sometime on Friday.

In the meantime, DeAnna posted some more photos from our maternity/reveal session on her blog! I know I say it every time, but I am more and more amazed every time she does photos for us. They always turn out beautiful and I am never disappointed. If you would, please say a little prayer that she is able to make it to the birth in November! Her husband just got out of the military so their family is transitioning to civilian life right now. He was blessed with a job fairly quickly, but it involves travel so if he's gone when little Ruby decides to make her grand entrance it will all depend on whether she is able to find an on-call sitter. She is also transitioning her style of photography over to 100% lifestyle (meaning no props and very few posed shots) and a homebirth is probably about as lifestyle as it gets! I'm very excited about having her document this special occasion for us and hope that she can make it!

1065 Days/27 Weeks

Just a quick update to remind everybody of what tomorrow is.....our maternity photoshoot! I feel like I've been waiting for these pictures FOREVER! We originally had it scheduled for last weekend, but our photographer had a scheduling conflict so we rescheduled for this weekend. Then we almost had to push it back again because Jon had something come up and work and he wasn't sure whether or not he was even going to be in town tomorrow! Thankfully he was able to work it out so the shoot is still on. I'm so excited about these pictures and everything that we're going to be doing! We will be revealing the sex of the baby as well as the name. It's been so hard not to slip about these two things and I'll be happy to finally have it out in the open!

If you would PLEASE pray for good weather tomorrow as we have a small chance of thunderstorms. They've been predicting rain for the past several days, but we haven't gotten any so hopefully Mother Nature hasn't just been holding it all in for tomorrow. I probably won't get the entire CD of photos in the mail for a week or so, but I will ask the photographer to email me at least one of the gender reveal and possibly the name so that I can post those right away. I think you've all waited long enough, I won't make you wait another week ;)

In the meantime, this is your last chance to go make a guess in our poll! Go here:

and enter your guesses! That link should take you right to the game page, but if it asks for the game name it's: BabyBush3

That's all for now, stay tuned tomorrow for the big announcement! :D

1019 Days/20w4d

Just wanted to pop in and let everybody know that we're doing well over here! We've been incredibly busy over the past week which is the reason for the lack of updates. Right after our company left, we started a new week which included the last week of swimming lesson (just the first session, Ari is already signed up for the next level which starts up again next week), the first week of summer dance classes, my 20 week midwife appointment (yup, I am already HALFWAY through this pregnancy!), and then we kicked off this past weekend with a 27 hour power outage! Thankfully we have some wonderful family out here who welcomed us into their home Saturday night through Sunday afternoon while we waited for the power to come back on and after restocking our fridge and freezer this afternoon and catching up on laundry, we're finally back on track. I have pictures to put up, but they are all on my MacBook and unfortunately my charger is completely dead. I have an appointment with Apple tomorrow morning to get it replaced, but I probably won't have time to update until later this week because we will be busy with 4th of July activities tomorrow.

So that about catches us up and a picture post will be coming as soon as I have access to my computer!

A HUGE entry is coming soon, I promise! I have photos from: an impromptu trip to DC with Jon and the girls, in February, FAO Schwartz in NYC, a visit to Ari's classroom on Dr. Seuss' birthday, my mom's visit, and a playground playdate with our friends Karoline, Micah, and Kirah!

These will all be up ASAP and I'm excited to share them. I have three month baby photos that I did for a friend as well as photos from a vow renewal that I NEED to get edited and sent off before I can get to my personal photos :)

737 Days

It's been 17 days since my last update....no good reason, we've just been really busy and I haven't had time to sit down and let everyone know what we've been up to!

Highlights:

*Jon and I celebrated our two year anniversary on the 18th. We didn't go out because the kids were sick, but we're going to get a sitter just as soon as we can coordinate a weekend. I know it's sounds awful that a husband and wife have to "pencil each other in", but it was simply due to a combination of Jon's crazy work schedule and some birthday parties that I had RSVP'd to and agreed to photograph several weeks ago.

*We booked our tickets to AZ! We will see all of our AZ friends and family soon (contact me for the dates that we will be out there)! Please let us know ASAP if there are any dates we need to save so that we can plan around them. We can't wait!

*Lucy turns 10 months old tomorrow and I will get her 10 month update up later this evening or tomorrow. I also need to take her pictures. I like doing outdoor pictures with her and the weather hasn't been great for taking the camera outside.

*Arianna is doing great in school and has her first book fair next week! I cannot believe how much progress she's made in just one month and how much interest she's showing in learning new things. She also started dance last week and loves it (ballet/tap).

I think that's all of the big stuff. I will have Lucy's update and pictures up soon!

571 Days

I just wanted to let everyone know that I haven't forgotten about the blog! Between playdates for the kids, photoshoots for friends, my birthday, and Jon being gone all of last week we have just been incredibly busy. I haven't had very much time to sit down and write out a proper update and get pictures up.

We are finally supposed to get some decent and consistent beautiful weather this week so I promise a ton of pictures. Arianna is getting a haircut tomorrow and I will be taking the girls' Easter pictures. Arianna also got a new outdoor playhouse (thanks Grandma!) and I'll have pictures up of that too. In the meantime here are the girls, just hanging out and having fun together.

516 Days- New Home Number...4!?

The Bush Family has moved!

newhome

"What!? You didn't tell anyone you were moving!"

Oh we're full of surprises over here!

"But Sarah, you swore on Godiva chocolate that you would not be moving again for another three years!"

I know, I know! I hate sorting and packing, figuring out what to keep and what to get rid of, hauling stuff into a truck, going from one place to another and then having to unpack and get settled. Oh and waiting for the cable and internet to get turned on. I don't like that either. It's all such a pain. Thankfully this move required none of that!

"Wait...you are confusing me. Where did you move to? What is your new address so I can send you lots of Godiva chocolate and maybe a new vacuum?"

http://www.bushfamilyfour.com

.......

Are you still with me? If not, we haven't really moved, at least not our physical selves. Some of you may have already noticed that we have a new blog address! I've been wanting to do this for a while, but hadn't because I really want sure if it was necessary to purchase a domain just for my personal blog. I have a lot of friends and family who follow us though and often times people just can't remember our blog address and end up having to text me or call me to get it. While I certainly don't mind giving it out to whoever needs it, I would hate for certain family members (like our grandparents) to miss out on seeing updates because I wasn't able to answer somebody's call or text in time. I am also really good at forgetting to charge my phone and it often dies without me even noticing until I go to use it. In fact....oops. I apologize if you have been trying to contact me today, I am plugging my phone in now! You see why this has become necessary?

The Bush Fam[ily] is still being published through Blogger meaning that if you type in the old address it will just redirect you to the new one. So if you already have the old page bookmarked, there is really no need to update it unless you want to. I am simply hoping that www.bushfamilyfour.com will be just a little bit easier for people to remember than www.bush091809.blogspot.com. So you see, I did this for you. Your chances of being able to remember my blog address and therefore see my family's photos at any given time have just been maximized! Pretty great, eh? ;)

Oh and our home address is still the same if you actually do want to send Godiva chocolates and/or a new vacuum. Far be it from me to decline such kind offers. I could never be so rude ;)

***UPDATE AS OF JUNE 2012***
We have moved again due to the new addition to our family! We can now be found at www.bushfamilyfive.com Make sure you bookmark the new URL because the old one will no longer work.

431 Days/39w1d

I am making a HUGE Thanksgiving dinner this year. Last year, we went to my aunt and uncle's house for Thanksgiving so I didn't cook anything. I did a turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, and corn for Christmas 2009. Since that was my very first time making my own turkey and I was really just focused on not messing it up. I've made it once more since then and everything went fine both times so this year I am going all out. On the menu:

24 pound turkey (I want LOTS of leftovers)
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Stuffing
Green bean casserole
Corn
Candied Yams
Cranberry sauce
Rolls with homemade butter

and for dessert

Pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream
Apple pie and vanilla ice cream
White chocolate raspberry cheesecake

Every single item on my menu is going to be made from scratch except for the rolls and that's because I've never baked my own bread before and I'm just not willing to let Thanksgiving be my first attempt. I'm sure it's very easy so maybe I'll practice a bit throughout the year and make my own rolls next year.

Tomorrow, I am doing all of the desserts as well as prepping all of the veggies. The desserts will taste better after sitting overnight and being refrigerated and it will leave me with a lot less to do on Thanksgiving day. There are a few dishes that require onions and celery and garlic so I'm going to chop all of that up as well and put it in bags so that all I have to do on Thursday is throw it in. I will be posting my recipes along with pictures as I complete each dessert.

I'm so excited about Thanksgiving this year and I hope all of my dishes turn out as great as they sound! I made the butter on Sunday and so far, so good!

421 Days/37w5d

I've been thinking a lot about Christmas this year and what we're going to get Arianna. Last year was very simple. She got a scooter (her Santa gift), an Ariel doll from us, and a few small things in her stocking plus presents from each set of grandparents. It was more than enough for her and we try not to overdo it on Christmas since her birthday is less than two months later.

This year, the only thing she has asked for is a Dora the Explorer doll in a blue dress and she plans to talk to Santa about this. I asked her tonight what else she's going to ask him for and she put her hands on her hips and said, "Nothing! I'm just going to ask him for a doll! You can only ask Santa for ONE special toy or he won't have enough for everybody!" I am not sure who told her this or where she came up with the idea, but I admit that it makes me terribly proud. She truly believes that if she asks him for anything other than one doll, someone else might go without a gift and she is certainly NOT ok with another child missing out so that she can have another gift.

So this is what I have so far (well, what I'm considering, I don't actually have any of it yet):

Dora the Explorer doll (this will be her Santa gift).

A kitchen (this will be her "big" gift). I'm going to keep an eye out on Black Friday and Cyber Monday and if the price on this one goes way down, I'll probably get it instead, but if not it will be that first one.

Candy Land or Hi Ho Cherry-O. I already knew that I wanted to get her Candy Land and after talking to other parents with kids around her age, Hi Ho Cherry-O seemed to be the second most popular. I'm going to get one of them for Christmas and the other one for her birthday.

Fisher-Price iXL Learning System. I actually just came across this today and it's another one that I'm going to keep an eye on during the holiday sales. If the price comes way down, I'll snag one, but if not I'm thinking that this will be her "big" birthday gift. Actually, even if I end up buying it during the sales, we still might save it for her birthday since she's already getting the kitchen.

That's about it and I'd say that will make for a pretty good Christmas in the eyes of a three year old! To some, it may seem like hardly anything at all, but to me it almost seems overboard. I've just always been very conservative at Christmas time because really, our kids already have everything that they need. Lucy probably won't be getting anything. I know, poor Lucy, gypped on her first Christmas. She won't be able to open gifts nor will she have any idea what's going on so I would rather just spend the money on Arianna this year. We'll probably get a small toy to put in Lucy's stocking just so Arianna doesn't get upset with Santa for "forgetting" about her sister. ;)

358 Days/28w5d

We are on our way home and should be back in Virginia sometime late tonight. We had a wonderful vacation and I think that it was incredibly good for Arianna and I to spend some time with my extended family. With me being an only child and Jon only having one brother, Arianna really won't grow up with a lot of aunts and uncles and cousins like I did. Even though I didn't get to see them often, I looked forward to vacations and loved having a big family. I want Arianna (and eventually Lucy) to know all of them well and remain familiar.

All of that said, Arianna and I are definitely excited to get back home and see Jon. Arianna has really started tovmiss him the past couple of days and because of the time difference and flurry of activities there hasn't been much time to talk on the phone or Skype. So we are eager to get back and get used to our daily routine again.

I know that I'm changing the subject rather abruptly here, but I can't let today go by without mentioning something about September 11th. I was a sophmore in high school and woke up to my dad watching the news. This really wasn't anything out of the ordinary so I went about my morning as usual. I remember hearing the anchors talking excitedly about something and playing the same video clip over and over. After about the fourth time, I started to notice less excitement and more fear in their voices and wondered what was going on. My dad told me what he knew, but nothing sunk in and even after spending a full day at school doing nothing but watching the news, I still didn't realize the severity of the situation.

It wasn't until I got home that I really understood that something bad was happening. My mom was home early from work and frantically making phone calls to my grandma and my Aunt JoAnn. She was trying to find out if her older brother, my Uncle Bob, was ok. He was working at the Pentagon at the time and she hadn't been able to get in touch with anyone since the Pentagon had been attacked. She finally got a hold of my grandma who had just gotten word that everything was fine and that Bob had not been hurt.

Today, September 11th, 2010, has given me a lot to think about and so much to be thankful for. I will be spending the next 12 hours traveling home with Uncle Bob who, nine years ago, we were afraid we might have lost. I am coming up on one year of marriage to a Marine who felt called to serve his country after it was so violently attacked. I just spent the past week saying goodbye to my Uncle Dennis who served 20 years in the Marines and I have many friends whose husbands are currently serving overseas, risking their lives, and sacrificing time with their loved ones to prevent something like this from ever happening again.

Our family is blessed, we are grateful, and we will never forget.

289 Days/18w6d

I will be making a big picture update tomorrow with all of our 4th of July pictures as well as pictures from our trip to Smith Lake Park yesterday. We are getting ready to grill up some hamburgers and later we're taking Arianna to Fredericksburg to participate in some 4th of July festivities! This is her fourth 4th of July and we're waiting to see if she will sleep through the fireworks for the fourth year in a row. I hope she gets to see them now that she's old enough to notice all of the different colors and patterns. We shall see!

Sometime today, in the midst of your celebrations, say a silent prayer of thanks to all of those who have sacrificed and are still sacrificing time with their loved ones in the name of our country's freedom. God Bless America!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, EVERYBODY!
