The big girl/kindergarten festivities actually started yesterday. A few weeks ago, I decided that I really wanted to spend some special one-on-one time with Ari the day before school started. We didn't get to do this last year because I thought I had an extra week and was late registering her for school. So the day before school started was spent rushing to the school to fill out registration paperwork and then rushing to the store to pick up school supplies and a few new clothes. This time I wanted to make the day before school a little bit more fun! I planned the day out in advance because there was a lot of the agenda! The original plan was to leave Lucy home with Jon and just take Ari out on her own, but the work schedule didn't work out that way so Lucy got to come with us. Thankfully, Ari is an awesome sister and didn't mind a bit :)
10:00am- I fed the kids a quick breakfast and then we headed out to Cartoon Cuts to get the big girl a new haircut! I gave her the option of continuing to grow it out or getting it cut and she chose to get it cut. When the lady asked how short she wanted it, she pointed to her chin so we asked for a chin-length bob.
Before:
11:am- After her hair was finished, we found a nail salon that was close in proximity to another treat I had planned for later in the day. I gave Ari the option of a manicure or a pedicure and she chose a pedicure. Her very first! I'm not sure who was more excited, me or her. The woman who did her pedicure was SO wonderful and made the experience very special.
Picking a color

This was her original choice....

But then she looked again and went for this instead....

Giving her sister a hug. Lucy was so bummed that she didn't get to pick a color for her toes too :(

Time for some big girl pampering!

I had clipped Ari's toenails the night before and I guess they don't cut cuticles on kids (nor does she have calloused feet) so she got a double dose of sugar scrub on her legs instead!

AND an extra long foot massage! I wish I had little kid feet....

"My feet are soft!"

The lady included a flower in the price of Ari's pedicure (not to poke fun, but those of you who regularly get pedicures know that you NEVER get the flower for free so this was awesome of her)!

Beautiful toes!

12:30pm- After all of the pampering, we stopped at Mainstreet Grill and Bar next door for lunch. Ari ordered a grilled cheese and I had a proud mom moment when, given the choice between fries and orange slices, she chose oranges.
1:30pm- The last treat that I had planned for the day was frozen yogurt at Sweet Frog! I haven't had frozen yogurt in ages and I've been hearing a lot of good things about this place so I figured that Ari's special day would be a good excuse to try it. OH.MY.GOODNESS! We will definitely be going back! The yogurt was delicious and the kids really loved being able to serve themselves at the yogurt machines and topping buffet!
She chose a Cookies & Cream/Cake Batter swirl!

Topping it off with some M&M's.

Its not complete until there's a cherry on top!

Lucy got strawberry with gummy bears because it was the only thing that she would let me scoop on before she screamed for me to give her her cup back. This kid LOVES frozen yogurt. (By the way, there will be more pictures of Lucy from the day's activities in her 21 month entry in a few days. I wanted to keep this one mostly Ari.)

When we finally finished with all of Ari's special day activities, we stopped at the grocery store for a few more items! The first was fruit and muffins for a tray I put together to bring to the office today. Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, pineapple, oranges, grapes and blueberry and cranberry orange muffins! I really appreciate all of the hard work that the ladies in the office do and all of the help and guidance that they gave me over the summer in getting Ari re-registered and into the class that we wanted her in. The second was ingredients to make Sprinkles Strawberry Cupcakes for Ari to enjoy after her first day in kindergarten! I spent hte remainder of the afternoon mixing up pancake batter to have ready for breakfast in the morning, putting together the tray, and making the cupcakes and frosting. By the time I finished, it was bathtime and bedtime.
Ari was up at 6am. I think she was too excited to sleep any longer. I sent her in to take a shower while I got breakfast ready.
Pancakes, eggs, bacon, and strawberries! I would love to tell everybody that this is what I make for breakfast every day, but it's generally more like cereal and a bagel. This was really special.
Jon ended up coming in and surprising us all which worked out perfectly because I was able to shower and get dressed while the kids ate. Ari came upstairs just as I was finishing up all dressed and ready to go. We did her hair and then went outside for some first-day-of-school pictures!
My baby look so grown up!!!!

All ready to go with her new Brave backpack! Her backpack from last year was passed down to Lucy who insisted on being able to wear it for pictures.

These girls love each other so much :)

We got to school around 8:30am, I dropped off the food tray and we waited outside with Ari until the teachers ushered everyone into the gym where the kindergarteners were lining up with their classes.
Waiting in line for everyone to arrive.

One more goodbye! Lucy was way depressed when she realized that we were leaving Ari behind. She moped around the house until she and I went upstairs to take a nap. She's really going to miss her sister during the week :(

The drop-off was pretty uneventful. There were no crying kids and, surprisingly, no crying parents, haha! Lucy and I picked her up at noon (they start with just a half day) and she was excited to tell us about her day. She can't wait to go back tomorrow and is eager to go for the full day and be able to eat lunch at school. Jon and I are so happy that she loves school and looks forward to going. I can't believe we have a kindergartener!
