257 Days/14w2d

Yesterday we had our first appointment with the midwives at Birth Care! We met with Marsha Jackson who is one of the midwives and also one of the co-owners of the practice. She was really nice, answered all of our questions, and made us feel very at home.

Jon and Ari on the way into the appointment.

Alexandria was a beautiful area and I would have loved to walk around had it not been raining when we left the appointment.

It's kind of a given that breastfeeding is encouraged, but it's always nice to see signs like these.

The appointment lasted about an hour since it was my first. She glanced over my medical history and then spent a lot of time talking to us about our family, our wishes for the birth, and gave us the opportunity to ask her questions as well. She let Arianna help her take my blood pressure and Arianna also got to help with the doppler when we heard the baby's heartbeat. It was Jon's first time hearing the heartbeat and he couldn't believe how fast it was (135 bpm). I'm very satisfied with our experience so far and can't wait to continue receiving care from these women. They don't do routine ultrasounds, but they will give us a referral to an imaging center at 20 weeks for our anatomy scan and so we can find out if Baby #2 is a girl or a boy!

After the appointment, we got lunch at The Cheesecake Factory and then walked around Tyson's Galleria and Tyson's Corner Center until about 7pm to try and avoid the heavy traffic on the way home. We ended up getting home around 8:30pm and Arianna went straight to bed. It was a long day!

Jon is back to work today and we're just getting back into our routine. We don't have much going on this week so I'm just hoping to relax and continue looking for preschools for Arianna!
